Leo has grown into the proud king of the jungle, his childhood bond with Lyre transformed into something deeper. Now an adult, he shares his life with Lyre as his mate and their two cubs: Rune, who looks just like his father, and Rukkio, who resembles Lyre. Above all, the story centers on Rune as he grows up and works to become as strong as Leo. This 26-episode adventure series from 1966 is a sequel set some years after the original Jungle Emperor and stays closer to the tone of the manga, so several characters die and some episodes turn somber. It later reached English-speaking audiences as Leo the Lion.
