The robot transformation gag is the entire show's sense of humor compressed into one image: absurd, shapeshifting, committed to making you groan before it lands. The voice cast is genuinely stacked, which means even dead comedy beats get performance energy that almost works. This is a show that swings for every genre at once and mostly whiffs, but when the timing clicks between the sexy-cute character design and a joke that actually breathes, you understand why someone defended this thing online for fifteen years.

High school student Sanpeita Kobayashi still remembers a childhood friend who moved away after promising they would reunite in ten years as husband and wife. One morning, right after he dreams about her, a strange, doll-like robot girl smashes through his bedroom wall while fighting spider-like battle droids. She announces that her name is Kemeko and that she is his bride. Sanpeita runs off to school, but Kemeko follows him there, and she steps in to protect him and his childhood friend Izumi Makihara when something resembling a rice cooker attacks them on the rooftop. Sanpeita then learns that Kemeko is a girl-shaped powered combat suit, piloted by a cute but heavily armed girl named Mei Mishima who resembles his lost friend. Questions follow about who she really is, why she left, and how she is tied to the Mishima Electronics Corporation. The result is an ecchi sci-fi romantic comedy.
