It spends its first stretch daring you to take it seriously, all slapstick, maid uniforms and fanservice gags, and then the back half quietly turns into the sober sci-fi sequel Kiddy Grade fans actually wanted. Ascoeur blinking across space mid-fight and Q-feuille scrambling to keep up plays as a comedy duo bit until the show starts treating those powers like a loaded gun. Twenty-five years after the agents Éclair and Lumière saved the galaxy from ruin, the GTO, the Galactic Trade Organization, works to keep universal peace by fighting crime. It formed after the fall of the older GOTT, and its ES division is modeled on that body's Encounter of Shadow-work force. Unlike before, ES candidates are now openly recognized. Ascoeur and Q-feuille are two such trainees working toward full ES membership, even as the galaxy edges toward chaos once more. The series is a sci-fi action comedy set in the same universe as Kiddy Grade.
