This is a show about the cost of starting over, told through the eyes of a kid watching her parents fail before they succeed. Lucy doesn't get a triumphant arc, she gets a real one, where the farm finally happens only after seasons of her family breaking under the weight of it. The exoticism never overshadows the exhaustion.

Lucy-May's family leaves England for Australia, hoping to run a large farm there. Their new life turns out to be full of frustrations, and the family endures long, discouraging days before they finally obtain farmland of their own. Along the way, Lucy and her sisters find plenty to enjoy: they come across exotic animals and meet Aboriginal people and many other newcomers to their lives. The 50-episode TV adventure and drama mixes the family's hardships with the everyday slice-of-life experiences of the girls in their new country.
