Basara crashes into a planet obsessed with Fire Bomber and finds himself fighting poachers to save space whales with a girl who worships the band he just left. The music doesn't just underscore the action; it's the weapon, the philosophy, the reason anything matters at all. This is Macross at its most sincere: a guy singing his way through a conservation story that treats giant space creatures with more tenderness than most shows reserve for their human characters.

Within a year of the Macross 7 TV series, Basara walks away from Fire Bomber and travels to the planet Zola. There he meets Elma, a devoted admirer of the band he has just quit. A group of space whales is moving through the planetary system, and an army of poachers, along with Elma's father Graham, is set on killing them. Basara has to call on his Spiritia powers once more to stop them. The four-episode OVA blends adventure, comedy, mecha action, music and science fiction.
