Maya refuses to be a number in the hive, and watching her bump against the system that built her is pure joy. Maya emerges from her cell as a curious young honeybee in a strict, regimented hive where every bee knows exactly what to do. She is raised to be a worker, but her independent streak makes the hive's rules hard for her to accept. After gathering all the honey near the comb, she decides to leave in search of a flower garden so she can bring back more for the colony. Because she goes without permission, the Queen sends her friend Willy to look for her. Willy joins her on the journey instead, and together the two discover how beautiful the world outside the hive can be. Along the way they meet many different insects, and their experiences range from joyful to frightening to sad. Through it all, Maya grows into a strong and wise bee. The series blends comedy and adventure in a gentle story about curiosity and friendship.
