An old man cuts wood in the mountains while his wife washes clothes at the river, and one day she carries home a large peach that has drifted downstream. When she cuts it open, a lively boy is inside. After he deals with an ogre that has been tormenting the villagers, he resolves to confront the ogres who live on Ogre Island. The old couple send him off with millet dumplings, and along the way a monkey, a dog and a pheasant join his journey. Released in 1928, this fantasy film brings the Japanese folktale of Momotaro, the Peach Boy, to animation with benshi narration.
