Season 2 stops apologizing for what it is. The goofy character designs sit perfectly still while genuinely unsettling ghosts do genuinely unsettling things, that tonal contrast is the whole point, and it works. The supernatural investigations feel like they matter; each case leaves a real weight behind instead of resetting for the next one. This is a shounen show that trusts you to sit with dread between the jokes. Nobody watches it, which means you'll actually be surprised by what happens.

Muhyo and Roji return to town as experts in magic law, but their bureau is short on work. A serious rival has appeared: Goryou Daranimaru, who studied ahead of Muhyo at Magical Law School and now runs a chain of supernatural investigation bureaus across the country. He is less powerful than Muhyo but still an able enforcer, and he works alongside his judge assistant Ebisu. Roji and Nana cross paths with the pair when Nana looks in on two friends whose game of Kokkuri-san called up a real spirit. Goryou charges harshly, uses cutthroat methods and wants to absorb Muhyo's bureau. Elsewhere, Enchu is dealing with counterfeit forbidden texts. The season mixes action, comedy, mystery and the supernatural.
