A guy builds his dream girl as a robot and accidentally creates something that matters more than the fantasy. Marie develops a consciousness he never programmed, asks questions he can't answer, and forces him to confront that the real person he needed to build wasn't her. The show commits to the weirdness of its premise without flinching, finding genuine pathos in a three-episode window that most series couldn't touch with twice the runtime.
Karigari Hiroshi, a college student with a talent for amateur science, decides to build an android copy of the girl of his dreams, and Marie is the result. She turns out so well made that she thinks for herself and starts asking big questions about where she came from, why she exists, and why she looks exactly like a certain girl. To keep her origins secret, Hiroshi passes her off as his sister, but trouble follows once Marie meets her human original from the tennis club. Matters grow more tangled still when the sentient android develops real feelings for the young man who built her. This three-episode OVA from 1996 mixes comedy, ecchi, romance and science fiction, and adapts a manga by Takeuchi Sakura.
