A ten-year-old wizard pretending to be a high school English teacher is the entire joke, and the show never apologizes for how stupid that premise is. The cast clicks because each girl feels like an actual person with her own rhythm instead of a collection of archetypes orbiting the male lead. Comedy, magic fights, and romance rotate without any of them drowning out the others, which means you're never sure if the next scene will make you laugh or actually care about what happens next.

A ten-year-old wizard-in-training arrives at an all-girls boarding school to complete his last test before becoming a Master Wizard: teaching English. Negi Springfield gets off to a terrible start with his student Asuna Kagurazaka, embarrassing her and taking over from the teacher she loves, which makes her hate him. When Asuna discovers Negi's magical identity, she threatens to reveal it unless he helps her out. Circumstances soon force the two to work together on everything from battling evil wizards to getting the class through their final exam. The result is a comedy fantasy with ecchi touches, where humor, magic and romance keep piling up around the young teacher.
