Negima!? abandons the source material entirely and doesn't apologize for it, letting SHAFT rip into pure visual comedy instead of pretending to be a serious adventure story. The gags land because they're weird enough to catch you off guard, and the cast has actual personalities instead of just existing to surround the protagonist. Second half collapses into incoherence, but by then you're watching for the jokes, not the plot.
Ten-year-old wizard Negi Springfield lands his first teaching job at an all-girls academy in Japan, despite being younger than most of his students. His assignment sounds simple: instructor at Mahora Academy, graduation requirement checked, Master's degree within reach. Reality proves messier. His class of thirty-one girls runs the gamut from troublemakers to crushes waiting to happen, and managing their chaos while maintaining professional distance becomes his daily battle. Complicating matters further, dark forces have begun targeting the school. Monsters lurk in shadows, supernatural threats grow bolder, and Negi finds himself dragging his bewildered students into combat situations they're completely unprepared for. What starts as an awkward teaching position transforms into something far larger: a desperate defense against creeping darkness that demands Negi lean on the very girls he's supposed to be instructing. The comedy of his impossible situation collides with genuine danger, creating an off-balance blend of comedy and action where no one quite knows what they're doing, but everyone's determined to survive anyway.
