Chitoge finally admits what you've known for episodes: she's in love with Raku, and watching her fight it is the entire point. The show knows comedy is its real weapon, it swings faster and lands harder than the romance, which keeps everything from getting saccharine. Season 2 trades mystery for mess, adding Haru's chaos and magical girl tangents instead of solving anything, but that's exactly what makes it work; the pendants don't matter, the bickering does.

Raku Ichijou and Chitoge Kirisaki, children of rival yakuza bosses, keep up their fake relationship even though the feud between their gangs seems to have calmed down. Slowly, Chitoge's view of Raku shifts, and she starts to find him somewhat charming. She struggles to accept these new feelings, and comes to realize she has truly fallen for him. Things only get messier when Haru, Kosaki's younger sister, shows up determined to protect her sibling from Raku, whom she believes to be depraved. Chitoge's mother Hana and Paula McCoy, a rival assassin to Seishiro, also enter the picture, and Kosaki spends a short stretch as a magical girl. Meanwhile, Raku keeps searching for his first love and for answers about the sealed locket, as the competition for his attention grows more intense in this romantic comedy that continues directly from the first season.
