Ancient Japan follows a grim custom: when an emperor dies, living people are sacrificed and buried in his tomb. Nomino Sukune, remembered in legend as the founder of Japanese sumo wrestling, puts an end to that practice. In place of human victims, he has terra-cotta clay figures made to be laid with the dead. This action film draws on that legend of the man behind sumo and the end of tomb sacrifice.
