This is not the ending fans built elaborate theories about. It is the ending that lets you say goodbye to Ash by watching him say goodbye to everyone who mattered, and that turns out to be enough. The reunion episodes work because they're not trying to be epic, they're just letting you sit in a room with people you haven't seen in twenty years and remember why you followed them in the first place. A kid and his best friend finally reach the mountain they've been climbing since you were a kid too.

Satoshi and Pikachu reach the final chapter of their long story together. Having faced challenges, learned from defeats and beaten the best in the world, Satoshi has at last realized his lifelong dream. His hunger for adventure is as strong as ever, though, and he keeps traveling to new regions, meeting unfamiliar Pokémon and making new friends and rivals. Along the way he crosses paths again with his first companions and the people and Pokémon who shaped his road to success. This action-adventure comedy closes one legendary journey just as another is about to start.
