These shorts let Pokémon be themselves without a trainer, a battle, or a plot to rescue. Each episode is just a moment: Magikarp waiting by the water, Slugma keeping a house warm, Mimikyu existing in the corner where it wants to be. The show trusts that watching small creatures live small lives is enough, and it turns out it is.

POKÉTOON is a collection of eight short animated episodes released on the Pokémon Kids TV YouTube channel between 2020 and 2021. Each short puts different Pokémon in the spotlight. The lineup includes a story with Scraggy and Mimikyu, a Pancham who dreams of becoming a hero, a tale called Blossom's Dream, a Magikarp episode, and a home kept warm by Slugma. Later shorts cover someone who suddenly becomes a Gengar, a Snorunt on summer vacation, and a song by Jigglypuff. The mood changes from one short to the next, swinging between touching and goofy, and the collection mixes comedy, fantasy and slice of life. Several studios handled the animation, with Studio Colorido making four of the eight episodes.
