Three high school baseball players versus the Phone Pole Team's conquest of Japan, the premise is exactly as ridiculous as it sounds, and the OVA never blinks about it. The humor lives in pure 80s absurdism: a cyborg with shoulder-mounted missiles that happen to be Indian, a villain organization literally named after utility poles, and a plot that abandons logic the second it stops being funny. This is what happens when you give animators a premise too dumb to fail and trust them to commit completely, the result is a three-episode sprint that knows exactly what it is and has zero interest in apologizing for it.

A shadowy organization called the Phone Pole Team wants to conquer the world, but it has scaled back its plans: it will take over one prefecture at a time. When local officials learn they are the next target, they build a defense force out of the high school baseball team, which has just three members: Shogi Morita, Kuho Tasuke and Akiko Ifukube. Meanwhile the school's mad scientist, Dr. Inogami, has turned a local boy, Kami Sanchin, into a cyborg. Across three episodes the trio faces faceless minions and rampaging cyborgs, tries its hand at undercover work and finds a little romance, all while defending the neighborhood and trying to earn the stipend the city council pays them. The result is a comedic sci-fi action romp from 1986.
