Nobody knows what actually happened to Nerima, and the show doesn't care enough to explain it. Z-chan and Gre-chan scavenge in the wreckage, build a house from garbage, and the comedy comes from treating the apocalypse like a roommate situation where the real disaster is just living together. Three episodes is barely enough time to realize this thing exists, let alone watch the joke finally land.
Nerima lies in ruins following a catastrophic photon energy disaster, though the truth of what actually happened remains murky. At the center of this wasteland stands a towering research facility, a monument to better days. Z-chan and Gre-chan make their home in the Shutter District at the tower's base, living in Photon House, a dwelling they pieced together from salvaged materials. The advanced photon energy that once coursed through the area has vanished, and Getter Rays falling from space now hold sway over the world. Even so, the two still run their home on efficient photon energy. Robot Girls NEO is a short comedy mecha web series set against this ruined, post-apocalyptic backdrop.
