The four of them are already broken before the story starts, and this season makes them break each other. Gunlock doesn't soften that, it leans into the friction until you're watching a found family cannibalize itself over a mission nobody fully believes in anymore. Half the episodes are genuinely painful filler that derails momentum, but the moments when Sanzo's faith cracks or Goku's chain doesn't hold are the ones that stay with you.

Genjo Sanzo, Cho Hakkai, Sha Gojyo and Son Goku press on with their journey to the west, determined to stop a demon from being brought back to life. Fighting their way toward that goal, the four keep running into friction among themselves. When a dangerous pair of foes from the west crosses their path, both the group's unity and the success of its mission are put in doubt. The series mixes action, adventure, comedy and fantasy.
