A lazy vampire who refuses to care about anything meets a kid who can't stop caring, and their entire dynamic is built on that tension. The servamp contracts feel lived-in, not just a magical system, they're about what two people owe each other when one of them would rather sleep forever. The show burns brightest in its character moments, but it spreads itself so thin across side stories that the main plot gets lost before it can matter.
Mahiru Shirota believes simple is best and tries to avoid anything troublesome. That plan collapses when the high school freshman takes in a stray black cat on his way home from school and names it Kuro. The cat turns out to be a servamp, a servant vampire and self-described lazy shut-in, and a string of mishaps ends with Mahiru accidentally forming a contract with his new freeloader. Now Mahiru is dragged into the world of vampires and the seven deadly Servamps, caught up in a dangerous, long-running conflict between vampires and humans. Mixing action with the supernatural, the story leaves Mahiru with anything but the simple life he wanted.
