A 15-year-old arcade prodigy pulled a thousand years into the future to pilot a prototype warship sounds ridiculous on paper. Shinbou takes that premise and executes it with such precise visual language, such clean storyboarding, that you stop questioning the logic and start watching the direction itself. The plot doesn't entirely hold together, but the way it's shot, those angles, that use of negative space, the control in every frame, is what matters, and it's mesmerizing enough that you forgive the nonsense completely.

Yohko Yamamoto is a cat-eyed 15-year-old living in the late 20th century who loves video games and Pocky. Her gift for arcade shoot-'em-ups catches the attention of Lawson, who brings her ten centuries forward in time to fly an experimental vessel called the TA-29. With Madoka Midoh, Momiji Kagariya and Ayano Elizabeth Hakuhoin at her side, Yohko heads the Terran squad in its fight with the Red Snappers, the notorious crew of Rouge and Ness. The three-episode OVA blends sci-fi space adventure with plenty of comedy.
