There's no plot here, no conflict, no reason to care except that these small, uncertain creatures understand exactly what it feels like to not quite belong. The movie just watches them exist in their corner, finding comfort in each other's quiet strangeness. If you've ever felt like you don't fit, you'll recognize yourself in a shy cat, a confused penguin, and a piece of leftover food, all choosing to stay together anyway.

The Sumikko Gurashi are a group of slightly gloomy characters who like to settle into the corner of a room. Among them are Shirokuma, a polar bear who can't stand the cold, Penguin?, who isn't sure it is really a penguin, Tonkatsu, a leftover piece of pork cutlet, Neko, a bashful cat, and Tokage, who keeps quiet about being one of the last dinosaurs. Their story starts when they come across a mysterious picture book in the basement of the cafe they always visit. The movie adds new places, items and characters to the corner-loving cast, and as a comedy it keeps a light, funny tone.
