Tatsuya doesn't grow, he just reveals how much further ahead he already was, and the show knows exactly how satisfying that is to watch. Lina arrives expecting to be the strongest person in the room. She isn't, and the way the Visitor arc builds tension from that simple fact is ruthless. The animation carries weight that the emotional moments don't, which means you're there for the spectacle of watching an untouchable protagonist compress reality around his enemies, and the show never insults your intelligence by pretending it's anything else.

Following the events of Scorched Halloween, a Strategic-class magician of frightening power has come to the world's attention. To learn who it is, the USNA secretly sends its elite magician unit Stars and their commander, Angie Sirius, to Japan. At First High School, Tatsuya Shiba and his friends see off Shizuku Kitayama, who is going to the USNA on an exchange program. Such programs are the one exception to the rule keeping magicians inside their own borders. In her place comes Angelina Kudou Shields, called Lina, from the USNA. Around then, Tatsuya learns that the USNA intends to expose his true identity. Meanwhile, bodies drained of blood are turning up in Tokyo, blamed on a vampire, and Tatsuya soon suspects the timing is no coincidence. Action, sci-fi and supernatural elements mix with romance.
