With another Wave only a week away, Naofumi Iwatani and his party have little time to prepare. Then bat familiars attack Lurolona Village and the Wave countdown suddenly stops. The queen, Mirelia Q Melromarc, calls the Four Cardinal Heroes together and links these strange events to the Spirit Tortoise, a massive creature that has woken from its slumber and could destroy the world if left alone. A plan to put the beast back to rest takes shape, but among the four heroes only the cursed Shield Hero agrees to help. Naofumi sets out with Raphtalia, Filo and some new allies, one of whom warns that the tortoise's release was no accident: someone freed it on purpose.
