Lina Inverse doesn't save the world because she's chosen or prophesied, she saves it because the job pays and she's the only one qualified to actually do it. The comedy runs on character voice and ensemble timing that still lands, turning every monster fight into a setup for Lina to weaponize her own selfishness or for Gourry to say something accidentally brilliant. Lina Inverse is a mighty and greedy sorceress who roams the land robbing bandits of their treasure, in a fantasy world full of magic, monsters and dangerous dragons. After one band of thieves ambushes her for revenge, the swordsman Gourry Gabriev steps in, mistaking her for a helpless girl in need of rescue. Good-hearted but not very bright, he names himself her protector and offers to escort her to Atlas City, and she reluctantly agrees. Lina herself cares about fame and gold above all else. Without knowing it, she has picked up a powerful magical item in her latest haul, and two mysterious men start hunting the duo to claim it for sinister ends. What begins as a comic misadventure grows into a journey where the fate of the world may hang in the balance.
