A scrawny kid with his wits sharper than any axe keeps saving his entire Viking crew from their own stupidity, again and again. His father wants him tougher, but Wickie's already the only one thinking three moves ahead while grown men panic. The joke never gets old: real strength is knowing what to do when everyone else is lost.

Wickie is a young boy living a happy life in Flake, a small Viking village from long ago. His father Halvar leads the Vikings as their chief, and he wishes his son had a little more courage. To give Wickie the experience a true Viking needs, Halvar and his men take the boy with them on their journeys. Time and again, though, the grown men end up trapped or hopelessly stuck, and it falls to Wickie alone to get them out with a sudden bright idea. Running 78 episodes, the TV series mixes adventure and comedy, with brains winning out where brawn falls short.
