This is the one you put on when you want Yu Yu Hakusho with a film budget behind it, and the animation cashes that check inside the first minute. That opening hits like a starter pistol, the score goes full brass and drums, and then it's ninety minutes of Yusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama and Hiei splitting off to trade blows with Yakumo's Demon-Gods over Tokyo's spirit sites. Spirit Gun, Spirit Sword, Rose Whip, Dragon of the Darkness Flame, all four signatures get theatrical framing and real weight on the impacts, which is exactly why fans still rank the fights above the plot carrying them. Because yes, the plot is a demon king with a Power Sphere who wants your planet, and it wraps up so fast you'll check if a reel went missing. Nobody watches this for the story. You watch it because Hiei on a movie budget is worth the ticket alone.

Long ago, the Netherworld and the Spirit World fought a war that ended with the Netherworld in ruins and its ruler, Lord Yakumo, cast out into the far reaches of space. Now Yakumo's Demon-Gods are battling for control of five mystical sites, and five defenders from the Spirit World must join forces against them. Yakumo is close to recovering the Power Sphere, the source of the Netherworld's energy, and if he gets it back, our world will become a new Netherworld. The feature film blends action and comedy with supernatural battles.
