Van finds a living Zoid in a dead place and decides that's enough reason to keep it, keep her, keep going. From that moment the show understands what it actually is: a road story disguised as a mecha series, where the real battles are about whether you stay or leave, trust or run, let someone in or keep them at distance. Every robot fight earns its weight because it's never just about winning, it's about proving you're worth the risk Van keeps taking.
On the Planet Zi, beast-like mechanical units called Zoids are used for everything from transport to combat. While exploring an abandoned facility in a remote desert, a boy named Van finds an Organoid, a small living Zoid that can fuse with machines and make them far stronger. He names it Zeke and keeps it as his companion. When bandits piloting Zoids come after the Organoid, Van revives an old Shield Liger with Zeke's help and drives them off. Back in the facility he discovers a girl named Fiona, who remembers little beyond her name and her need to find something called the Zoid Eve. The three set out together to learn what it is, meeting friends and enemies along the way. The mix of mecha battles, adventure and lighter comic moments suits its action, sci-fi and comedy labels.
