Maika's complete inability to pull off the sadist act, that dead-inside stare while she's trying her hardest to be mean, is the entire joke, and it never stops landing. Maika lands a job at Stile, a quirky cafe where waitressing isn't just about orders and coffee. Each waitress is given a character archetype to perform for customers: one plays the tsundere, another the younger sister type. High schooler Maika Sakuranomiya needs the money to study abroad, but her frightening, unintended smile keeps costing her job interviews. After yet another rejection, the Italian manager Dino finds her outside the cafe, is charmed by how cute she is, and decides she should play the sadist. The problem: Maika is cheerful at heart, and the role does not suit her. Yet whenever she tries hard to be nice, her nerves take over, and the result only makes her more convincing as the ruthless waitress Dino had in mind.
