Akina's not trying to save the world, he's trying to save one person, his sister, and that simplicity cuts deeper than any apocalypse plot ever could. The card mechanics don't exist to explain the story; they're the stage where six broken people actually say what they mean to each other. After Will+Dress nearly killed this franchise, Divinez remembers that Vanguard works best when the battles matter because the fighters do.

Six cards called the Six Desires come into being one day, each holding the power to change fate. Six fighters are chosen to hold them, and together they are drawn into the Fated Clash, a contest in which they battle one another until only one remains. The last fighter standing will have any wish granted. Akina Myodo, a young man who wants to help his frail sister, joins the Fated Clash in hopes of winning that wish, and he soon finds himself facing powerful opponents. The series is an action fantasy adventure built around card battles where the prize is a single wish.
