Yuma starts as an insufferable kid who gets humbled hard, then actually grows into someone you believe in over 73 episodes. The Numbers concept gives every duel weight beyond the cards themselves, you're hunting down pieces of a ghost's shattered identity, and every win pulls you deeper into why that matters. The first stretch drags like hell, but once ZEXAL II kicks in, the pacing finds its rhythm and the show remembers it's allowed to be genuinely good.

Yuma is an eager but inexperienced duelist in the futuristic city of Heartland who dreams of becoming the dueling champion despite his weak skills. During a duel with a school bully, a mysterious being called Astral appears before him, visible only to Yuma, and helps him win. Astral explains that his memories have been turned into 99 Xyz Monster cards known as Numbers and scattered around the world. Each Number can possess the duelist who holds it and bring out their darkest desires. To recover those memories, Astral teams up with Yuma to gather the cards, but they are not the only ones searching for them, and threats begin to gather over Heartland. The result is a fantasy action series built around card duels.
