This is the season that lets you exhale. The first run put Kanade Amamiya through the whole ambush-scouting-by-a-legend routine and the scramble for DreFes Cards from fans, and R picks him up on the other side of that with the same five voices intact: Shin Oikawa still keeping his cards close, Junya Sasaki still saying more with a flat stare than most idols manage with a ballad, Itsuki Katagiri running warm, Chizuru Sawamura tripping over his own competence. Nothing here is trying to break you. There's no backstage betrayal arc, no tragic backstory reveal waiting in episode nine, just guys who like being on stage together getting better at it. Haruto Mikami tapped Kanade on the shoulder and changed his life, and R is the part where Kanade stops being surprised about it. That's the whole appeal, and it's enough.

Dream Festival! R is the second season of Dream Festival!, a twelve-episode music ONA from 2017. The first season introduced Kanade Amamiya, a second-year high school student scouted by the legendary idol Haruto Mikami, who trains at the same agency alongside Shin Oikawa, Junya Sasaki, Itsuki Katagiri and Chizuru Sawamura. Their goal is the Dream Festival, the stage every idol hopes to reach, with a professional debut riding on it. Idols polish their performances every day, and the cards fans send to their favorite idols are what help them stand out and shine even brighter.
