Zack Fair and Cloud Strife are on the run from Shinra Inc. after Sephiroth destroys the village of Nibelheim. As they head back toward Midgar, they fight to survive against the company while looking back on the terrible events that took place there. Those events began when Shinra sent its elite SOLDIER force, including Zack and the war hero Sephiroth, to check the Mako reactor at Mount Nibel after reports of monsters. There, Sephiroth uncovered where the creatures came from and learned the origins of the Jenova Project. Months later, Zack is far from the hero he once hoped to be, pursued by the Turks, who want the evidence the two carry buried.
