Sugimoto and Asirpa's hunt for buried gold never stops being funny because the show treats a ridiculous premise with the same dead-serious commitment as a war drama. Every revelation lands harder because the comedy earns it through character work, not just timing. The final season closes out a story that somehow made you care about a treasure hunt as much as you'd care about anything that matters.

The treasure hunt nears its end in this fifth and final season. Former convict Keiji Ueji surfaces in Sapporo carrying a piece of the gold map on his skin, and every faction heads to the city to claim it. Meanwhile, a killer who seems to imitate Jack the Ripper stalks the streets. Sugimoto, Asirpa and Shiraishi, along with Boutarou the Pirate and Vasily, form a temporary pact with Hijikata, whose goals seem less sinister than First Lieutenant Tsurumi's. Asirpa gathers clues for telling the forged skins from the genuine ones, but she still cannot read the map for certain. Sugimoto vows never to be separated from her again, yet the chaos around the murders opens the door to fresh betrayals and moves Tsurumi's scheme to seize Asirpa forward. Whoever reaches the gold first will decide the fate of the Ainu. Expect action, adventure and comedy as the long hunt reaches its close.
