A man walks out of feudal Japan into a country he doesn't speak, with nothing but the belief that education can remake a nation. The show moves with quiet purpose, following Niijima through three American schools as he discovers what freedom actually costs and what it demands you build when you return home. This is the story of someone who chose to become dangerous to the old world, one classroom at a time.

In the last years of the Edo period, Jo Niijima puts his life on the line to reach America, hoping to find freedom. Helped by many generous people there, he studies at three different schools and receives a modern, democratic education. Abroad, he comes to believe that Japan can only modernize through schooling that raises people with independence, liberty and a firm conscience. Back home, he devotes himself to bringing an American-style school to Japan and sets out to create the country's first private university. His dream is not fulfilled while he lives, yet it carries on through the students, graduates and teachers of today's Doshisha. The story unfolds as a short three-episode ONA.
