A father so obsessed with keeping his son's world pure that he poisons cake with a smile, all while nursing a crush on a mysterious writer he'll never have. The comedy lands because it knows exactly how ridiculous this is, and the two episodes move with enough momentum that you don't have time to ask if any of this makes sense. By the end, you understand why Chisato does what he does, and that understanding hits different than the setup promised.
Chisato is a strikingly youthful 35-year-old novelist with a problem: he's convinced the friends his fifteen-year-old son Riju brings home are out to corrupt him. His solution is unorthodox. He turns on the charm, brings out cake with a smile, and poisons it to drive the boys away for good. It's a twisted father's idea of protection, but one guy won't be scared off. Riju's persistent best friend Shunsuke doesn't fall for Chisato's act, which raises a question for the protective parent: is Shunsuke really after Riju? The real mystery runs deeper, though. Chisato idolizes a mysterious best-selling mystery author whose work inspires his own, and Shunsuke may know more about her than he lets on. Just why Chisato is so wary of his son's friends remains a secret waiting to surface. The two-episode OVA mixes comedy, drama and romance.
