Nine girls in a dying seaside town decide to save their school by becoming idols, and somehow that becomes the most earnest thing on television. The music hits because it's written for people who actually believe in the dream, not irony. By the finale you're not rooting for them to win a competition, you're rooting for them to prove that showing up and trying matters.

Chika Takami considers herself an ordinary girl with no clubs and no special talents, but a trip to Tokyo shows her a stage where someone like her could shine. Inspired by the legendary group μ's, she sets out to form a school idol club at Uranohoshi Girls' High School, a small private school in the seaside neighborhood of Uchiura in Numazu, Shizuoka. Student council president Dia Kurosawa firmly opposes the club. Then Chika meets Riko Sakurauchi, a shy transfer student and gifted pianist from Otonokizaka High School, the home of μ's, and sees her as a promising recruit, though winning her over proves hard. Led by second year Chika, nine girls chase the dream of becoming the next generation of sparkling school idols in a music and slice of life story.
