A man's love turns to obsession. He chases a legendary Pokémon across a wasteland because saving the world isn't enough, he needs to save the one person who mattered, and he fails anyway. This two-episode special takes the mythic scale Pokémon keeps threatening and actually delivers it, grounding the apocalypse in a single person's impossible choice between resurrection and survival.
Professor Sycamore and Alexa explore some ruins and find a stone statue of a woman named Aila, which leads them to an old legend. Records from Kalos tell how Aila's beloved, Jan, tried to defeat Yveltal, the Destruction Pokémon. He failed, and the land lost all its life as Yveltal turned into a cocoon and changed Aila to stone. Jan kept going and sought Xerneas, the Life Pokémon, to bring the barren land back, but even that could not restore Aila. When Kalos fell badly out of balance, Zygarde, the Order Pokémon, appeared to set it right, and Jan stayed by Aila's side as life and destruction kept turning. The two specials are a fantasy adventure built around this legend.
