Nobody needs to tell you what Great Mazinger and Getter Robo are; you already know the exact moment these girls show up on screen. The comedy doesn't waste time explaining the source material, it assumes you've lived with these robots long enough to laugh at what happens when you shrink them down and let them actually get along for once. Six episodes is exactly the right length to milk that premise without overstaying, landing jokes that land harder because they're built on decades of real history between these franchises.
At the Photonic District of Nerima Ward's Ooizumi Academy, the Robot Girls are trying to sell Photonic Energy, pitched as a cheap and green source of power. Their lab's research has stalled and its government funding is gone, so money is tight. The three girls are thoroughly bored when the two part-timers they hired show up. Garada-K7 wears long pigtails. Doublas-M2 talks only through the pair of hand puppets on her hands. The newcomers turn out to be there to stop the sales, and a fight breaks out. Released as six comedy shorts, this Robot Girls Z follow-up brings back Team Z alongside Team G, Team LOD, Team Gou and characters from the franchise's online game. Its story draws on two classic Toei Manga Matsuri films that pitted Great Mazinger against Getter Robo.
