A 1987 OVA that moves like a neon-soaked noir fever dream compressed into 45 minutes. Youko and Pete feel like a real partnership, not a hero-and-sidekick setup, which means every hostage moment actually lands because you believe he's fighting for someone who matters. The entire film is built on momentum and atmosphere instead of exposition, trusting you to keep up as it barrels toward the Rainbow Tower. It's cyberpunk that doesn't pause to explain itself, just delivers the goods and gets out.
In the futuristic city of Shambhala, Youko reports for the Private Eyes newspaper. Her boyfriend Pete is an android who also serves as her bodyguard and cameraman, and together they are hunting a mysterious criminal known only as Mr. X. Their search brings them to the Rainbow Tower in the TechnoLand amusement park, where Youko is taken hostage. To rescue her and keep Mr. X from getting away, Pete has to fight his way through and wipe out the program running the tower's central computer. The result is a single-episode sci-fi action OVA from 1987.
