Anise takes a job in Japan because it's the only thing that feels like purpose anymore. Ryo stays behind, paralyzed by the same indecision that nearly killed him when the stakes were apocalyptic. The real enemy isn't waiting for you this time. It's the life you're supposed to want now that you've survived the one that mattered.
Three years have passed since the Borgman trio's last adventure, and life has pulled them in separate directions. Ryo engineers rockets for NASA, while Anise, stuck working in a restaurant, accepts a job offer on a high-tech project in Japan and leaves without him. Chuck works as a cop alongside his girlfriend Miki, who stumbles onto something impossible: cyborgs fighting each other. The problem is, there shouldn't be any cyborgs left. Ryo, Anise, and Chuck are supposed to be the only ones in existence. Once Anise arrives, Chuck and Miki ask her to look into Heaven's Gate, an energy project they suspect is behind the new cyborgs and a string of disappearances around Tokyo Bay. Meanwhile, Ryo heads to Japan after her, joined by Hussan, one of the last surviving researchers from the Borgman Project.
