A kid whose dad was right all along gets dragged into fighting actual space invaders, except the invaders are four shape-shifting criminals who are somehow dumber than they are dangerous. The comedy lands because Linn and Takoro are constantly one step behind, reacting to chaos instead of preventing it. Muteking transforms not because the plot demands it, but because the situation is already ridiculous and somehow needs to get worse. This is a show that understands that the funniest thing about a twelve-year-old saving the world is how completely unprepared and annoyed he is about the whole thing.

Twelve-year-old Linn Youki's father is mocked for warning that aliens are about to invade Earth, but the boy stands by him. When Takoro, an odd young deputy sheriff from another world, arrives hunting four notorious space criminals, Linn is drawn into the fight. The Kurodako Brothers are shape-shifters who plan to use their alien science to become Earth's hidden rulers. With Takoro's help, Linn becomes Muteking, a roller-skating costumed hero out to foil their schemes. What follows is a light-hearted action comedy with a colorful supporting cast: a well-meaning but clumsy alien partner, a gang of inept would-be conquerors, a beautiful police chief, an obsessed scientist, a sarcastic dog and a fussy flying saucer.
