A girl corners you on day one and demands you date her, no negotiation. Mamoru spends the entire show trying to figure out if she's serious, if he wants her to be serious, and why his refusal keeps backfiring into something that looks exactly like the relationship she demanded anyway. The show finds comedy in the space between what people say they want and what they're actually willing to fight for, and it never lets either of them off the hook.

Mamoru's life takes a bizarre turn when he enrolls at Tokyo Beatrice High School, an institution dedicated to teaching students how to manifest their will into reality through a mysterious power called Beatrice. On his first day, he encounters Ayako, a strikingly beautiful second-year student who orders him to become her boyfriend. Ayako is known across campus as the head of the discipline committee and a prodigy with Beatrice, feared enough to earn the nickname Angel of Death. Mamoru, though, sees that she is really a kind and bashful girl, something nobody else would believe. Word of her confession spreads fast, and soon he is invited to join her committee, setting up a hectic year of comedy and romance.
