great anime with zero romance in it
No love triangle is coming to hijack the plot. Everything here earns its stakes some other way, whether that's Vinland Saga turning revenge into a question with no clean answer, Monster stretching one bad decision into a 74-episode manhunt, or Frieren mapping grief instead of courtship. The bar was simple and brutal: strip romance out entirely, and does the story still have a spine. Gintama gets to be stupid and then gut you, Legend of the Galactic Heroes gets to argue about idealism and power for hours, Made in Abyss gets to be merciless, and none of them need a couple to hold the center. What's not here is the genre's favorite crutch. What's here instead is plot, philosophy, obsession, grief, and the occasional slime stew.
