The first season didn't care if you knew Kashiwa existed, and this one won't either. Season Z keeps doing the same thing: finding the weirdest possible angle on a real town's boring streets, treating a junior high schoolyard like it's full of ancient magic just waiting to be noticed by girls who are too busy with their day to understand what they're looking at. The comedy has zero ambition to build toward anything. It just lives in the moment with whoever shows up, whether that's a cryptid or a traffic light, and that's the entire point.

Kashiwa Densetsu Z returns in 2019 as a ten-episode comedy fantasy ONA, following up the original season that aired in winter 2016. That earlier run was a surreal gag series about junior high school girls who share their school in the real town of Kashiwa with mysterious creatures. It loosely showed off what makes Kashiwa appealing, drawing on material tied to the town and its local events.
