This one gets you with the gap between the hype and the reality. The intro sells Chako and the East Oizuki Academy Cosplay Association as Japan's hottest team, bound for the Cosplay World Series, and then the actual show is a club that can barely scrape together members or a sponsor. Three OVA episodes, no arcs to speak of, no themes weighing anything down, just girls sewing costumes they cannot afford and taking themselves completely seriously while nobody else does. The ecchi is exactly as shameless as 2002 promised, so know what you're signing up for. What lands is that it was made for the cosplay scene before cosplay went mainstream, back when a school club doing this was genuinely niche. Chako is bad at almost everything and still shows up, and that is the whole appeal.
