Anime Like Devilman
The Devilman starts out genuinely horrifying, demons that look like they crawled out of fever dreams, violence that still holds weight in 1972, but then a woman named Miki ruins everything by being kind to the thing wearing her boyfriend's face, and the show pivots into something that doesn't have a name yet. A demon saves humanity for one person, over and over, each week another grotesque threat that exists only to be destroyed by something that shouldn't exist at all. The episodic churn gets exhausting, but the core premise never does: a monster learning to be human because one human treated him like he could be.
SYNOPSIS
Akira Fudou's life changes forever when a demon merges with his body during a catastrophic accident. Instead of becoming a mindless instrument of chaos, something unexpected happens: living among humans, sharing their joys and struggles, transforms the demon within him. He begins to care about the people around him, especially Miki, the tough girl who keeps him grounded by literally beating sense into him when he acts out. But this newfound humanity makes Devilman a traitor in the eyes of the demon world. The Demon Lord Xenon sees his defection as an unforgivable betrayal and unleashes wave after wave of grotesque creatures onto Earth, each more vicious than the last. Caught between two worlds, Akira must fight to protect humanity without revealing what he truly is. Every battle threatens to expose his secret, every victory brings him closer to losing his humanity entirely. Devilman stakes everything on the question of whether a monster can choose to be good, or if his nature will ultimately consume him.
