Enma-kun treats Hell's bureaucracy like a joke and gets away with it because the show knows exactly how funny it is to watch a demon cop casually humiliate monsters who break the rules. The comedy lands on the back of genuine weirdness, a snow woman and a frog demon as your protectors, creatures that exist in that specific 1973 space where horror and slapstick lived in the same frame without apology. This is what Saturday morning cartoons would have looked like if they'd been written by someone who actually understood yokai folklore instead of sanitizing it.

Monsters from Hell are breaking the rules and slipping into the human world to collect human spirits, lured by how corrupt people's minds have become. When a group of them suddenly attacks Tsutomu, a boy who attends Yokai Elementary School, he is rescued by Enma-kun, son of Enma, along with Yukiko, a snow woman, and Kapaeru. The three belong to the Monster Patrol, a team sent to the human world to arrest monsters. Adapted from Go Nagai's manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday, the series mixes comedy and fantasy with horror and the supernatural.
