You're looking at a 90s OVA that treats its own premise like a joke you're in on. The treasure hunt setup exists mostly so the script can throw absurd complications at you, watch everything spiral into chaos, and then pull the rug out on what "Salamander" actually was. It's built for people who want adventure without taking any of it seriously.

Gou has sworn to find the fabled treasure of Salamander. During his search he runs into Ren, a spirited fairy who is hunting for the four treasures of Heart. Mari, Gou's childhood friend, is fed up with his constant treasure chasing, but she strikes up a friendship with Rin, another fairy. Before long, Gou and Ren's hunt interferes with a secret project run by Mari's father, and Gou begins to learn that Salamander may not be what he believed. The two-episode OVA mixes adventure and comedy with ecchi humor.
