A 1970s manga brought to life exactly as it was drawn, crude jokes and all, with youkai extermination as the thinnest excuse for nonsense that actually lands. The comedy works because it commits to the bit, running puns that feel ancient and somehow funnier for it, battle sequences that treat demon-slaying like slapstick theater. This show knows it's disposable and makes that the entire point.

Evil youkai are attacking the human world in 1970s Tokyo. Hell's answer is the Youkai Patrol, a ragtag squad sent up from the underworld to wipe them out. The team is made up of Enma, a hot-headed demon prince; Princess Yukiko, a haughty ice princess; Kapaeru, a lecherous frog-demon spy; and Grandpa Shappo, an old spirit in the shape of a talking hat who guides the group. Together they take on a parade of bizarre monsters, among them a vengeful squid and a sleepwalking cat. Expect slapstick, lewd gags and comedic fantasy battles.
