A seven-minute short that treats nose snot as philosophy. The whole thing is a visual pun wrapped around the idea that sometimes the smallest, most undignified part of existence is exactly what saves you. It knows what it's doing, leans into the absurdity without apology, without trying to be clever about being dumb. Made by animation students who understood that the best comedy doesn't explain itself, it just is there, gross and honest and somehow necessary. You finish it and realize something about how we survive got said in the dumbest possible way, which somehow makes it stick.
A short comedy film made as a 2022 graduate project in the animation department of Tokyo University of the Arts' Graduate School of Film and New Media. Its title plays on the Japanese word for nose snot, which it uses in place of a cruder word for the state of things. Starting from the sense that life is going badly at the moment, it sets out to offer some hope and a few laughs.
